Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology

After thirty three years of construction and development since its establishment in 1978, Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology (BIPT) has developed into a regular institution of higher learning with distinctive characteristic of engineering practice, which is capable of fitting in with both the demands of China's core industries and that of the economic and social development of Beijing. BIPT takes engineering as its key discipline while exploring the inter-penetrating and coordinative development of disciplines of science, engineering, economics, management and arts. It has been elected as the first batch of pilot institutes with the aim to cultivate outstanding engineers, a program initiated by China Ministry of Education. It has the Beijing first national educational and experimental base that integrates production, teaching and research.

BIPT boasts 10 teaching units. They are Chemical Engineering College, Mechanical Engineering College, Information Engineering College, Economics and Management College, Humanities and Social Science College, Material Science and Engineering Department, Foreign Languages Department, Physics and Mathematics Department, Section of Physical Education, and Engineering Education Center. The institute is entitled to award master degree in chemical Engineering and mechanical engineering. Besides, it has set up International Education College to conduct its international exchange and cooperation and Continuing Education College to offer adult education and training. At present, more than 6600 undergraduate students, 130 joint cultivation postgraduates and 1400 adult students from 28 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions are studying there. A multi-level and multi-form development pattern has been in place.

The International Education College, also an international affairs office of the institute, is a window for its international affairs management, including the operation of its international exchange and cooperation, the dispatch of its students to foreign countries, the recruitment and administration of international students & foreign experts, the management of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao affairs and other relevant international affairs.

Up to now, the college has collaborated with higher learning institutions and education organizations in various countries such as the United States, Britain, German, France, Norway and India. It has begun to enroll overseas students as early as 2000. Those are from Korea, France, America, Kazakhstan, Norway etc. Now the students do not only study Chinese, but also take oil & gas storage and transportation and international trade as their majors. The college has a high qualified faculty who are committed to provide considerate service and comfortable living conditions to overseas students.
